Job Description
Our client is an internationally focused engineering service and consulting team who deliver software solutions to Tier 1 DSL and Cable operators worldwide.
The network administrator position will be responsible for managing and maintaining many aspects of computer room maintenance, including servers, network devices, . infrastructure, telco, cooling etc.
He/she will also be responsible for working with outside groups, including customers to leverage expertise of our organization to the business unit as a whole. Out of the box thinking and quick response are critical to the success of this position. Working in a fast paced environment where deep knowledge and thorough understanding of network technologies are a must. Managing and maintaining internal equipment as well as external equipment for customers in a professional services role. This is more than your traditional network admin position.
Design, configure and administer routers, switches, and load balancers in a multi-vendor, multi-data center environment.
Work with carriers and partners to establish BGP peering.
Help with the lab network configuration and troubleshooting.
Configure and maintain network monitoring and measurement tools.
Own the problem by taking individual responsibility and drive resolution by working closely with engineering, system engineers and DBAs.
24x7 availability to support the production environment.
Conduct performance tests on networking equipment from vendors and document results.
Configure and administer security devices such as firewalls and IDP.
Develop network automation scripts.
Provide professional services and support for existing customers as well as assist in sales efforts for new customers.
Ability to travel onsite to customer sites for installation, troubleshooting or maintenance
Knowledge Skills
Experience troubleshooting network issues including routing, switching, firewalling and other network protocol problems.
Deep experience working in Unix and Windows based environments, including basic system administration knowledge. Minimum 5 years experience working with these operating systems
History of working in a 24/7/365 support environments including on call rotation.
History of design and implementation of load balancing solutions.
Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, including coordinating with outside vendors.
Strong troubleshooting skills at the protocol level.
Experience with Checkpoint, Fortinet, Extreme, F5 and Cisco routers / switches and firewalls. 5 years experience working with multiple firewall vendors
Strong knowledge of network protocols - BGP, OSPF, HSRP, VRRP, Spanning Tree, DNS and IPSec.. 5 years experience working with and maintain some of these protocols.
5+ years experience with DNS and IP management protocols.
3+ years experience with PPPoE and PPPoA authentication.
Knowledge of DSLAM, CMTS and similar network connection devices.
3+ years experience scripting knowledge of Perl or Shell.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
