The Collection Clerk is responsible for analyzing accounts and bringing them to resolution. They will call third-party payers, patient, attorneys, employer, or other appropriate parties to get information and promises to pay. They will document all action taken on the computer system. They will provide documentation, including requesting medical records or itemized statements, to responsible parties to expedite payment. They will research and liquidate both debit and credit balances.

1. Follow-up or rebill third party claims in a timely and accurate manner, compliant with regulations.

2. Pursue and receive additional information required for getting claims processed by the payer..

3. Add additional information (ie: payers, proration changes, and financial classes) to assure patient accounts match medical records and billings.

4. Add complete comments on any accounts to record the activity taken.

5. Participate with team in keeping library of payer requirements and adapting easy reference tools.

6. Help train team members and coworkers on job functions and payer requirements.

7. Helps develop tools and participates in efforts to further team progress on all special projects and top priority items.

9. Helps research and establish work requests for the billing system to create appropriate edits. (SSR=s)

10. Analyzes accounts, both debit and credit balances, taking whatever appropriate action needs to be taken to liquidate an account.

11. Works with Collection Agency to assure appropriate handling of patients and their accounts.

12. Handles inquiries from patients, attorneys, and insurance companies regarding questions on their patient accounts.

13. Performs other duties as assigned
